In early February, the College of Education
held its “Ag in the Classroom” event to bring
awareness to where and how food is sourced
and provide lesson plans to students on how to
integrate this information into classrooms. The
turnout among COE students, faculty and staff
was huge! We welcomed Jill Jeffords, director
of Ag in the Classroom at the South Carolina
Farm Bureau Federation and offered free
giveaways. Every attendee had the opportunity
to experience a butter making lesson in the
agriculture classroom “Ag Lab” that was
parked in front of Tillman Hall. Vendors from
other agricultural organizations with teacher
resources filled the Tillman Hall lobby.
“The event exceeded
expectations, drawing nearly
600 attendees. This strong
turnout underscores our ongoing
commitment to preparing
preservice teachers to serve rural
communities across the state.
Given the overwhelming success,
we are excited to explore making
this impactful event a biannual
tradition.”
